Therapy Dog ​​Visits Seniors Through Windows To Cheer Them Up Amid Pandemic

The Dog Alliance in Cedar Park, Texas has certified Tonka the Great Dane as a therapy dog. He has been receiving therapy for less than a year, and he often visits elderly residents of the neighborhood with Courtney Leigh, his handler, in an effort to bring them joy.

However, going to senior centers is now forbidden owing to the limitations put in place as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Due to this limitation, Tonka and her companion have had to get inventive to continue to make the senior citizens at the facilities happy.

In the middle of the epidemic, Tonka and Courtney unquestionably want to contribute to making elders feel more at ease.

The senior center facility is regrettably unable to accept visits for its inhabitants, even from family and friends (including Tonka), because to the COVID-19 epidemic amid these difficult times of zero contact and social distance.

The excursions were conducted outside the Cedar Pointe Health and Wellness Suites thanks to Courtney’s brilliant idea. As a result, Tonka may engage with the occupants of the building via the windows, brightening their day.

Courtney stated to KXAN:

“We’ve learnt that, in light of recent developments, all treatment appointments will be postponed—of course, for containment and safety concerns. We greatly miss our visits, so I wondered what I could do on my own to try to preserve some of the positive emotions that this lovely canine instills in everyone. ‘, therefore they were gracious enough to support my concept.

Now when the dog and his handler visit outside, Tonka enjoys this relationship, even though it takes place via a window.

Tonka always knocks on the asylum’s windows to greet the patients, who peer at him through the glass, whenever they pay a visit.
