Sweet Dog Who’s Been To Over 30 Adoption Events Still Holds Out Hope For A Family

Cleo has been to adoption events for the past six years. And she’s been overlooked for the past six years.

Cleo is a pro at meet-and-greets by now, but that doesn’t make it any less depressing when she departs each time without a family.

Cleo’s foster mother, Vicky Ham, told The Dodo, “She has gone to so many over the last six years.” “She is usually scrutinized since she is huge, weighs 80 pounds, and is deaf.”

“It’s a lot of, ‘She’s gorgeous, she’s kind, I wish I could take her,'” Ham said. “This is something Cleo has mastered.”

Cleo was only a puppy when she was rescued from the devastating 2016 floods that ravaged Louisiana. Ham started fostering her via Safe Haven Animal Rescue and didn’t learn she was deaf until later. Cleo’s inability to hear has never stopped her from living life to the fullest.

“The only difference between Cleo and a hearing dog is that to give her a sign, you have to look at her,” Ham explained. “She reacts to some hand gestures, facial and bodily movements, and flashing lights,” says the narrator.

Cleo believed she’d found her permanent family twice as a puppy. But each time, the adoptive only kept her for a few months before returning her.

“Cleo is a nice, loving girl with a lot of energy,” Ham said. “She enjoys being outside, going on walks, and taking trips in the vehicle.”

“She also adores her toys,” she said, “and you can usually find her with one in her mouth.” “If she doesn’t have a toy to bring to you to play with when someone comes over, she’ll run and get one.”

Cleo has attended over 30 adoption events in her life, and Ham finds it difficult to watch her be neglected.

“For a while, I stopped taking her to them.” “I’d given up hope of finding her a home,” Ham said. “I just decided to take her again in the hopes that her family might show up on that particular day.”

Cleo has had the finest life imaginable thanks to Ham, but she knows she deserves more than a transient position.

Cleo needs a family that understands that her deafness isn’t a flaw, but rather something that adds to her uniqueness.
