A Woman Discovers An Amazing Bug That Is Almost Too Beautiful To Be True

Margaret Neville was wandering around the yard on her property in South Africa the other day when she saw something unusual.

There was a bug unlike any she’d seen previously on a limb in her lavender bush: “I was astounded at first sight,” Neville told The Dodo.

It’s not hard to understand why.

The lovely insect had the appearance of a delicate glass sculpture. Her white and green wings had an exquisite swirl on them, and the rest of her body was covered in small purple flower-like formations.

Kerri Martinaglia, a friend of Neville’s, was the one who posted the photo. She was similarly taken aback.

Martinaglia told The Dodo, “When I saw her, I felt she was a wonderful work of art.”

The bug she’d discovered was fittingly named a “Flower Mantis,” a sort of praying mantis best adapted to camouflaging itself in flowery environments, as Neville and Martinaglia discovered.

And the mantis Neville came across was plainly prospering as a result of that method. Neville gave her a name before returning her to the lavender bush: Miss Frilly Pants.

A video of Miss Frilly Pants in action may be found here:

“She’s been living on my lavender for the entire month of September,” Neville added. “She’s still there now,” says the narrator.

After Martinaglia posted images of her online, the amazing mantis drew a lot of attention from those who were surprised to hear that such an animal existed. However, not all of her new admirers are human.

Miss Frilly was recently sighted with a suitor, according to Neville:
