According To One study, Cats Mirror Their Owner’s Personalities

For years, people have wondered why cats act the way they do. Cats are unpleasant, aggressive, and haughty, according to those who dislike them (which, as anyone who has met a cat knows, is completely untrue). However, many people are curious about where cats receive their distinct personalities.
Finally, science has provided a useful response to this question! It turns out that there is evidence that cats imitate their owners’ characteristics. So, to all those people who claim to have only encountered mean cats, it’s possible that you’ve only met mean people, given that cats receive their characteristics from people.

The study from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Lincoln was titled “Owner personality and the well-being of their cats share parallels with the parent-child relationship”.
Its results confirmed the evidence of prior studies, indicating that cats get their personalities from their owners!
The research involved asking over 3,000 cat owners questions which measured their personality traits (such as openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism).
The results demonstrate that qualities that are more prevalent in humans are likewise more prevalent in cats.

For instance, if a human-owner is constantly tense or apprehensive, their cat is likely to be as well.

The study also called attention to those of us who consider pets as our children!
They looked at the interaction between human children and their parents, as well as the bond between cats and their human owners. It was discovered that between 30% and 60% of personality traits are inherited, with the balance owing to environmental variables.

Humans who scored higher on the “agreeableness” attribute had cats who were happier and had better relationships.
Furthermore, cats were less aggressive, less fearful, and more outgoing in humans who were more conscientious and open.

Another study discovered that cats imitate their owners’ lifestyles.
The research looked at two different types of cats. The cats in the first group lived in smaller homes and were kept close to their owners. On large properties, the second set of cats were kept outside at night.
The cats gradually began to imitate their owners’ behavior. The cats in the second group grew more nocturnal.
It was shown that humans have a significant influence on their cats’ lifestyles.
